No. A grid-connected solar system can work without a battery. A compatible battery can store some surplus solar energy for later use. Whether storage makes sense depends on your electricity use, budget and goals.
Standard grid-connected solar usually shuts down when the grid fails. Backup needs suitable equipment, an appropriate inverter and a system designed and wired for that purpose. Ask which circuits could be supported and for how long; a battery alone does not guarantee whole-home backup.
Your property location, an idea of your electricity use and your goals are a useful start. Mention whether you want battery storage or EV charging. A recent electricity bill can help with a later assessment, but you do not need to send one with your first enquiry.
